Engagement
When clients retain the firm.
Most tax engagements come to the firm in one of three ways. A taxing authority initiates an audit or assessment, and the exposure is meaningful enough that prior representation is no longer adequate. A transaction is contemplated — a sale, restructuring, relocation, or major distribution — and the tax consequences need to be understood before, not after, the deal closes. Or a return position taken in prior years no longer holds up, and the firm is retained to evaluate exposure and resolve it on the most favorable terms available.
In each case, the work is technical, the timeline matters, and the documentation has to hold up. Clients receive direct attention from experienced counsel across the engagement.
